Specialties: Performance Enhancement and Relationships

Dr. Brown has been a leader in expanding the principles of sport psychology to performance domains beyond those of traditional athletics.  He coauthored You're On!  Consulting for Peak Performance (2004, American Psychological Association), was featured in a 2006 CNBC story on business leaders benefiting from the principles of sport psychology, and has written a chapter for Kate Hays’ soon to be released book (in press), Performance Psychology in Action.  He was selected by the American Psychological Association to demonstrate sport/performance psychology in their video series “Special treatments for special populations,” resulting in their Performance Psychology DVD being released in August of this year (2008).

Dr. Brown serves as the official sport psychologist for the USA Canoe and Kayak Whitewater Slalom team, in addition to working with Olympians from other sports.  Of the 14 athletes that he coached for Olympic trials, six are headed to Beijing.

He has published various professional and popular articles related to performance enhancement and development of mental skills, offering guidance to individuals of all ability levels. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Current Projects:

Preparing athletes for the 2008 Beijing Olyjmpics
Organizing the first AASP Expo to be held in Salt Lake City in the Fall of 2009. The Expo is a showcase of sport psychology services offered to the public in conjunction with the annual convention of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Authoring a chapter for Kate Hays' upcoming book, Performance Psychology in Action: A Casebook for Consultants (in press, American Psychological Association)

Athletic Interests:

T'ai chi, cycling, running, triathlon and snow skiing. Most memorable athletic moments: first triathlon at Table Rock, SC; the Charlotte Marathon (old course); skiing the double diamond High Traverse at Taos.

Charlie and Janet have been married more than 20 years and live in Charlotte with their Labrador retriever, Bailey.
Charlie Brown, PhD is a psychologist, author, and consultant who has presented numerous programs in the US and abroad on achieving one's full potential, managing work/life balance and improving marriage and family relationships.   With a unique blend of clinical, performance enhancement and master coaching expertise, he is a leader in providing performance enhancement consultation to athletes, performing artists, professionals and executives.    

Janet Blanchard, MSW is a Human Resources Consultant, with expertise in project management, group facilitation, and process design and delivery.   She has worked in the corporate environment in technology, banking and non-profit industries.   She serves as a mentor to women professionals seeking work/life balance and career decisions.
